As term 1 starts..

The pre-terms are coming to an end. And term 1 is going to start in a few days. I can sense the air getting thinner around me, I do not see the same number of people that I have become used to now. Things change rapidly at ISB. Perhaps its on purpose, after all, as a manager, one will be required to adjust to changes really quickly.
This week was a breeze though, after all the running around during orientation week, I found some time to think this week and decided what all I want to do here. I am glad I took the pre terms. Brushing up stats was necessary and got some basic idea about accounting as well. The fact that I learnt that a debit is actually an ‘add’ and credit is a ‘subtract’ was my takeaway from the accounting course. It’s surprising as to how ignorant I am about some basic things!!
Though the week went by smoothly (read ‘not hectic’), there was a lot of activity that happened this week. There were numerous club presentations by enthusiasts, people who will probably go on to become club presidents etc.
I gained a lot of ground on my idea which was to have a focus group on telecom, started off with 9 people in the first meeting and today, in the second meeting, 16 people attended. We have a set agenda focused more on learning rather than placements; however, I am curious to see if we can attract more telecom companies to campus this time. Well, another eventful week at ISB came to an end.

Back to School

Its just been a week now, but seems I have been staying in this place for years. Several people I talked to echoed the thought. Not because we are bored with this place already, but more because of the schedule, its been hectic to say the least. At the age of 30, we have been made to play games that sane kids don’t play, go on treasure hunts, and run from the student village to the atrium (academic centre) at least 4-5 times a day, even sat through the club presentations for 4 hours at a stretch. But am I cribbing!! Hell! NO…

There is nothing like going back to school and I am enjoying every moment of it. The first week was hectic, there was an overload of information and I, for one, who has a memory the size of… have been thoroughly challenged. This week, we are having the pre-terms, and it’s comparatively, its has been a pleasant chill week, not many classes and actually, significant time to assimilate the information of last week and introspect.

Some of the things that I thought about are as follows:
It’s a golden opportunity that I have given myself to make me a better person. I feel that I should not lose myself in the fight for grades, I have done that in undergrad, and though that helps, I think I want to improve myself on some other counts, I would like to acquire a new talent, like playing an instrument, be a part of some business plan competitions, create a focus group of people interested in the telecom domain, join and organize some social service initiatives, and in the process, meet as many new people and understand them. I think if I can take back these things with me at the end of the year, I would have gained significantly.
